About Me

About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has been working with adults and children since 1999. I earned my Master's in Social Work at Hunter College and I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.

During my tenure as a Senior Social Worker at a community based outpatient mental health clinic, I have served as a Field Instructor to MSW students from every major accredited university in NYC. I taught and facilitated Experiential Groups for incoming Master level students so they can have a more comprehensive understanding of group psychotherapy as a treatment modality. In my work with groups, I have developed an intuitive acumen in the workings of interpersonal relationships. A great part of group therapy is focusing on the dynamic relationship between its members. My acuteness in understanding the complexities of human relationships has proven to be invaluable in my work with individuals and couples.

Specializing in Mood Disorders and Couples Therapy

Depression

Depression is not the same as the occasional "blues" that everyone experiences from time to time. Clinical depression is much more pronounced, and it can also lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. Do you feel sad and unmotivated most of the time? Are you easily bothered by the smallest of things? Have you lost the vibrancy you once experienced or struggling to cope with the ennui of life? Whether your depression is related to a specific incident or something more elusive, therapy might be a viable option in managing your symptoms.

For a lot of depressed individuals, the act of seeking help can be an overwhelming first step. Perhaps you have some questions? Feel free to contact me below so I can address some of those concerns for you.

Anxiety

The feeling of constant and persistent dread can be painfully exhausting. Whether it is in the form of panic attacks or unrelenting worry, the symptoms can hinder all aspects of your life. Thankfully there are very effective forms of treatments in managing such symptoms. Therapy can help you uncover the underlying causes of your worries and fears. It can also teach you new ways to relax and cope with your anxiety. It will hopefully allow you to look at situations in a whole new way.

Sometimes the underlying cause of anxiety can be self-esteem issues. If you lack confidence and find yourself feeling awkward and incompetent in the presence of others, let's discuss how therapy can help.  Therapy can help you regain the assertiveness to navigate through life more effectively.

Couples Therapy

I've developed an in-depth understanding of the complexities of marital relationships. Nobody ever enters a relationship with the intention of it being a painful endeavor, yet somehow along the way couples stray so far from their happily ever after. Are the arguments more frequent? Did the intimacy in your relationship take a nosedive? Are you trying to get over a recent affair?  I help couples develop more effective ways to overcome the obstacles in their relationship.

Relationship problems are rarely the result of one individual. it is a mutual dance between couples that sustains the problem. I help individuals identify their role in this dance, and perhaps offer them an opportunity to try something different.
