My Approach

I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy in my clinical work with individuals and couples. I  draw from various elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy as well as utilizing an Insight-Oriented approach. Depending on the problem, I will adapt my approach to the needs of my clients. I have learned to appreciate the individuality of each client and the complexities that come with each situation. Regardless of modality, I am forever mindful of maintaining safety and empathy in the room.

A great deal of my therapeutic work will focus on the "here-and-now". Rather than just talking about relationships outside the therapeutic session, the technique focuses on what is transpiring between the therapist and the client in the present moment. How is this helpful? I believe that a client's interpersonal issues will eventually emerge in the therapeutic relationship.  Working in the present, in the room directly with what is happening, I can help a client to address problems as they unfold.  A man with anger issues might grow angry with his therapist. A woman who feels betrayed by her partner might feel betrayed by her therapist. Therapy becomes less talking about issues and more working with them as they occur in the session. Working this way paves a road to a more engaging and dynamic therapeutic experience.
